I'm in a crappy mood. I decided to do a Christmas card workshop on November 20th. My deadline for RSVP was 8p tonight. I've had one person sign up. Granted one customer just had a baby Friday, I didn't expect her to want to come, but really, one?
So I've decided to console myself with the fact that it's the opening night of New Moon and I just can't compete with that. Wink!
But what's really bumming me more is what happened this weekend. Saturday night around 10ish. No, it wasn't some college football game. It was the health care bill. It passed the house. Narrowly, but still.
I just can't wrap my brain around it. {Political stuff ahead!}
I simply can't understand why insurance is a right that the government should provide. Roads? Yes. National security? Sure. Freedom of religion, speech, right to bear arms? Well duh! But insurance? Not quite getting it. I mean I get that insurance is important. Please you don't have to explain that to a pregnant woman who NEEDS an epidural in a few months.
But. Insurance is the reason that (in my opinion) medical bills are so high to begin with. When I didn't have insurance (in college) I was charged less at the doctor's office than when I did have insurance. Same doc. Same visit. Different price. Why?
Okay, insurance and public option aside look at all the other stuff in this bill. For starters, one trillion plus dollars to finance. We are already borrowing money from China to "create" jobs here. We are printing more money than we can back up.
Uhg. That's it for now....I am too fed up to finish my thoughts and D just got home from a weekend of hunting!!! Feeling better already!!
ETA real quick...blog candy announcement may be later in the week!!

I'm not a political person so I have no idea about any of this. I know we came from NH where the governor made it easy for poor people like me to get free state insurance for their kid up to the age of 18. And free insurance for pregnant woman that covered the woman up to her 6 week post partum checkup. I've never had insurance, except when I was pregnant, and I used what they called the sliding fee scale, the more you make, the more you pay. I think that's the college thing you're talking about.
Now that Bryan is in the Army we're very extremely lucky to get Tricare Prime. Even me, I have insurance, and was able to see a doctor recently and will be seeing a specialist soon. And I'm glad for it. I'm not even gonna lie. I'm am thrilled that I have insurance for myself. A small monthly amount comes out of Bryan's check every month but that is all we pay. I'm glad for that too because we can't afford a co-pay.
I'll have to read up on this insurance thing so I can know what you're talking about... I'm sure you'll bring it up again... lol. I don't want to be completely clueless!!! lol.
Sorry about your workshop. I tried posting for a workshop to get myself out of junior status and had not a single person sign up. Oh well.
About the workshop....shoot! I feel guilty, so guilty that I'll go to email afterwards and write you! :-)
I'd like to jump in and comment on the health care bill. I don't see it as a "right" of the government, but as an "obligation" (lack of a better word) for a universal health care.
I lived in a former-communist/socialist country (Romania), then in a democrat-socialist country (Germany) and then a capitalist one (USA). Universal health care is as far from "socialist" as US is from Russia...
Germany, one of the most developed countries, has universal health care. They have clinics, private practices, hospitals, much the same like in the US. I lived there in a total (naive) bliss for 5 years, paying less health care premium than in the States (because there everyone pays for health insurance) and having yearly tests and visits to the doctors as needed.
But then, I came to the States. Long story short, I'm scared here for my life. It may sound dramatic, but I'm afraid that, if something happens to me, I'd have to choose between dying or putting my family into major debt for the next generations to come. It shouldn't be like that.
In my opinion, universal health care is not hard working people paying "for the deadbeats", because everyone pays health insurance.
I guess the "comment" box is little and narrow for a reason, so I'll stop here. :-)
Well I right there with you Mere!!! I also came from a country where they had universal health care...and believe me I would rather get sick here!!!!! Universal health care is NOT all it is cracked up to be...and our country is NOT geared up for it unlike Europe. Yes everyone who works pays national insurance..BUT...those who don't work don't and the system in the UK is totally broke...not enough money and HUGE waiting lists I can't even tell you how hard it is to see a specialist. I am NOT a supporter of this health care bill..it is my opinion and I know not everyone shares it.
Sorry about the workshop...I am in the same boat...can't get even 1 customer interested in the stampaganza even.
