As you may know my husband and I are in the process of building the ol' dream home. And I have the wonderful privilege of building a scrap room from scratch. One of my requirements is plenty of counter top space to work on and of course custom storage. I also want lots of lighting.
My question is this:
What would you want in your scrap room if you could start from scratch?
Now I'm not looking for fantasy rooms here! LOL! None of this "every cartridge made by cricut" or "a full time maid to organize my scrap paper" business. Real world stuff okay?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you have!!

Hey Meredith -
I'm so envious of you being able to start a scraproom from scratch! Can't wait to see the finished room!
What about a small sink? I think that would come in handy!
Also - a display space on the wall above my work area to hang things that provide me with inspiration!
Good luck with planning your room!
Shelving and proper storage areas!! Good luck getting it just right,, how exciting :)
Hi Meredith, I think that a countertop in 2 different heights would be of great advantage. You know for those things that are done standing up and that would hold your essentials like your paper cutter, die cutting machine or what not. I always wish I had a counter height space for these things ;D. And yes, shelves lots of shelves to store those gorgeous creations until they find a home to give them to....it's always good to have some gifts done in advance for those times when you are in a time crunch :D:D. Hope all is going well. Hugs and blessins, Sabrina
Wow! This is just a great opportunity for you!
Tresa Black (The Stamp Goddess) recently made a video-tour in her scrapbooking place. Maybe you can get some ideas there. Here is the link:

Good luck!
Hmmm, well I would love to be able to have my computer in my craft space, but with a new house perhaps you'll be wireless with a laptop. Definitely WINDOWS and fabulous lighting.
I'd love a wall mount tv actually (no shelf space!) so I could watch the news or a soap now and then!
Lots of shelving and drawers for storage- I like to have things organized. I'm a neat freak.
Have fun with your new space.
Just wanted to let you know you won the giveaway on my blog today. Please email me so I can get your certificate out to you.
Defintely LOVING the kitchen counter height worktop...I am always moving while creating...and doing it at that height is perfect. Also LOVE the repurposed kitchen cabs as storage...esp the drawers. TONS of space and all hidden away. LIGHTS very imp...daylight bulbs..very imp. Also don't forget electrical outlets. My Dad put in 10 outlets by my area and I have used all but 2 of them...just saying..plan it now cos they are a pain to add later. Having the outlets right by where I am working also really helps (no extension cords.) These are the practical things I have noticed through evolving my scrap area. Cork board..very useful. Computer hook up...also useful..as is a sink nearby! By a window..another thing I love.
I think though LIGHTING is my #1 thing that I find useful..if you can't see what's the point. The HUGE daylight fluorescent strip lights my Dad put in are a godsend.
How fun! Congrats on the framing of the house too- it'll all be finished before you know it! Yay!! My dream scrap room would include several things. It would need lots of windows for natural light and a special work table to inspire me. I would love built in cabinets- possibly even a piece of furniture so no one would guess that all my stamp supplies were hiding inside... and I agree. You totally need outlets for phone, computer, and extra task lighting! Cannot wait to see the end result!
Starting a craft room from scratch ~ AWESOME!
Because I like things "flowing" when I make cards, I'd have a custom made desk, with space for my computer and cutting machine on the right, the actual work space in front of me and the supplies on the left. And a chair with perfect wheels so I can roll in the room.
And lots of light.
And a good honest friend to tell me: "Hey, I think it's time you streamline in here, do you need some help?" (that's the realistic option to the maid version)
Is it going to be in the attic or in the basement? Or in between?
Would definitely want alot of cupboards and countertop space.
